The Souls Behind Slow World Travel
Let us introduce ourselves, we are Jelena and Roger — a 🇳🇱Dutch–🇷🇺Russian couple, with roots in the 🇳🇱Netherlands and 🇰🇿Kazakhstan — who, since 2021, have been embracing the world through the lens of slow travel.
Our journey began when we left behind our conventional lives to explore the globe in our self-designed 1996 Puch 230GE camper — a dependable and rugged 4×4 vehicle that served in the Swiss Army for 24 years before becoming our cosy, off-grid home on wheels.
Our travels with Puch have taken us through a wide variety of landscapes and cultures, including:

Each destination has brought us new insights, unexpected beauty, and meaningful human connections. We’ve met fascinating people, or been warmly welcomed into their homes and lives — and left as friends.
Through our platform, Slow World Travel, we want to share authentic stories, practical tips, and honest reflections on the joys and challenges of life on the road. Our mission is to inspire others to slow down, travel with intention, and focus on what truly matters: meaningful experiences, simplicity, and human connection — rather than just ticking off destinations.
Before setting off on our journey, we were already engaged in various creative and professional pursuits:
- Roger, with a strong background in ICT, digital solutions, and process improvement, runs his own small company, uOnline.nl, where he hosts websites and offers digital services to clients — including our own. He is also a passionate visual creator. Much of his creativity flows into 3D design for custom camper interiors and exteriors, which are brought to life in collaboration with
TemboTravelServices.nl. - Jelena, with a background in social work and ICT, brings a rich multicultural perspective to our storytelling. While living on the road, she studied remotely to become a certified writer/editor and personal coach. Her work focuses on emotional growth, personal transformation, and guiding others to reconnect with themselves — wherever they are on their life journey. In 2024, she also joined uOnline as a partner, contributing her skills in communication, empathy, and content creation to support and inspire others.

Our story is not just about the places we visit, but about the experiences we gather and the connections we create. It’s a testament to the beauty of embracing the unknown and finding home wherever the road leads us.

Along the way, we’ve learnt that you can’t plan everything — it’s the people you meet and the stories you exchange that often decide your next destination.
We’re partly living our dream, and one of our guiding mottos is:
“Live your dream, don’t dream your life.”
Still, we have many dreams yet to realise. One day, we both hope to write and publish a book — and to continue learning more about ourselves with every mile.
